Oh this resilient girl. There are SO many ways we can describe Hoka. She is a dog that makes us laugh every single day. Hoka was hit by a car in the winter of 2022. She did not receive veterinary care, and learned to manage on 3 legs for quite some time. She came to our shelter with an infected foot and no use of her front leg. For quite a while we bandaged her foot every 2 days hoping that she would regain use of it, but the damage to her upper leg was far worse than we had imagined. We made the decision that if she was going to spend time with us in recovery, we may as well have that time be spent recovering FULLY. After 2 months, she was still not putting her foot down. In May, her leg was amputated. Don't feel bad for this girl, though! She had spent so long on 3 legs that the 4th was really just in her way. She is recovering beautifully from her surgery and the loss of her leg does not take away any of her abilities. Hoka is a true sweetheart and needs a home where she is loved by all. She is housetrained, LOVES to go for car rides, loves toys and we are all very proud of how well mannered she has become. Hoka loves other dogs, so a home with one is a plus. Dogs with attitude need not apply! Hoka is deserving of a home where she is loved by all and can finally relax where she is safe. A secure, fenced yard is an absolute requirement for Hoka. She has spent most of her life roaming, she is incredibly smart and strong and will make it through a weak fence before anyone notices. While she loves a good dust bath, she has become accustomed to following the volunteers around the shelter while they do chores. She loves to be loved! Although Hoka is a "tripawd" she still needs her exercise to avoid weight gain, which can be dangerous for all dogs but especially a dog with 3 legs that tends to carry her weight in the front. Daily walks are a requirement. Our vet is happy with the results of her surgery and believes she is finally ready to find her new home. We have high expectations for her new family as we know that Hoka does, too. She is very friendly to everyone she meets but she will let it be known without a doubt if she is not comfortable with someone. Hoka has a home with us for as long as she needs to until the perfect home is found. But we sure would like that to be sooner rather than later as she has been in the shelter long enough. She is up to date on vaccines, spayed, microchipped and ready for a new beginning.
